Diversity in the Living World
How animals move
Find out the many different ways animals move.
Animals move from place to place in many ways. They can fly, run, crawl, walk, hop or jump. They use different body parts to do it, such as wings, legs and other parts.
Your book's table gives examples:
- An ant moves on its legs.
- A goat walks and jumps, using its legs.
- A pigeon walks and flies, using its legs and wings.
- A housefly also walks and flies, using its legs and wings.
- A fish uses its fins.
Where an animal lives goes with how it moves. A fish lives in water and swims with its fins. A goat lives in grassy areas and walks on the ground on its legs.
So the way animals move can be a basis for grouping them. Animals also differ in shape, size, structure and colour, and these can be used for grouping too.
