Careers in ECCE

A trained educator or caregiver can teach in a nursery school, care for children in a crèche, or join a team that runs programmes for young children.

Government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) hire professionals to plan and promote campaigns and services for young children.

Entrepreneurs can start their own child care and education programme, at home or in a separate space. This also needs management skills. Ideas: camps, edu-picnics, activity clubs, pre-school centres.

With experience and more qualifications, one can coordinate programmes or train teachers. A post-graduate diploma or degree, and a doctorate, open research and senior posts.

Common places to work: crèches, day care centres, nursery schools, NGOs, ICDS, and training institutes. Many doors: teacher, caregiver, organiser, entrepreneur, researcher.
