Hospitality Management

Careers in hospitality

Prepare for a hospitality career.

Hotels have top, middle and junior management, supervisors and operations staff, so there are jobs at every level. The industry is growing fast, and young people make up most of its workforce. The same principles apply to hostels and large hospitals.

Competencies needed: good grooming and hygiene, orderliness, manners and etiquette, a smiling face, cheerfulness, self-discipline, courtesy, fitness, good communication, self-confidence, and several languages.

Front office staff should wear clean, pressed uniforms, few accessories, neat hair and clean nails, always giving a good image.

Courses in catering and hospitality run from certificates and diplomas to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Hotel management is a popular choice.

Opportunities: housekeeping posts at all levels; housekeeping enterprises; front office and reception; supplying flower arrangements; and theme-based events. Smile, serve and stay well groomed.
