Corporate Communication and Public Relations
Areas of PR and Page's seven principles
Apply PR principles to a real case.
Areas of PR work:
- Press relations: friendly ties with editors and reporters; well-written, well-timed releases; being available; tolerating criticism; no favourites. The press and PR depend on each other.
- Advertising: products need ads to inform and persuade; the PR person often decides the budget and media.
- Publications: brochures, folders, pamphlets, circulars, in-house magazines: simple, clear, attractive and true.
- Other media: films, exhibitions, hoardings, puppetry, folk songs, good public speaking, telephone manners, radio and TV.
PR also serves constituents: the local community, financial analysts, bankers, shareholders and investors. Internal PR with employees keeps the PR person informed.
Page's seven principles:
- Tell the truth.
- Prove it with action: people judge a company far more by what it does than by what it says.
- Listen to the customer.
- Manage for tomorrow.
- Conduct PR as if the whole company depends on it.
- A company's character is expressed by its people: every employee is an ambassador.
- Remain calm, patient and good-humoured: cool heads communicate best in a crisis.
Tell the truth and prove it with action.
