Feelings and phrasal verbs
Learn words for feelings, and phrasal verbs.
Feeling words come in shades:
- nostalgia: longing for the past; elation: great happiness;
- anguish: intense suffering; despondence: low hopelessness;
- melancholy: gentle sadness; despair: complete loss of hope;
- jubilant: joyfully celebrating; euphoric: extremely, almost dizzily happy.
Idioms from the poem: feel blue (sad), lift my spirits (cheer up).
A phrasal verb is a verb + a small word (preposition or adverb) with a new meaning: pull through = succeed in a hard situation.
**Six ways to move:**
- move out: leave your home;
- move in: start living somewhere;
- move on: start something new;
- move over: shift to make space;
- move along: go to another position to make room;
- move off: start moving, leave.
Others: put off (postpone), get over (recover), look after (take care of), break down (stop working).
