Shapes and Patterns
Which shape am I?
Play the 'Which shape am I' game.
In your book, Maths Mela (Chapter 7, Shapes and Patterns), four shapes play a game called 'Which Shape Am I?'. They are the square, the rectangle, the rhombus and the parallelogram. Each statement describes a shape, and we find which one it is. Some statements describe more than one shape!
Remember what each shape is. A parallelogram has its opposite sides equal. A rectangle is a parallelogram whose angles are all right angles. A rhombus is a shape with all its sides equal. A square has all its sides equal AND all its angles right angles.
'All my angles are right angles, but all my sides are not equal.' Right angles everywhere, but the sides are not all the same: that is a rectangle (a square is ruled out, because all its sides are equal).
'All my sides are equal, but all my angles are not.' Equal sides, but not all right angles: that is a rhombus. 'All my sides make right angles with each other and are equal.' Equal sides AND right angles: that is a square.
'My opposite angles are equal and my sides make right angles.' This one fits two shapes: a rectangle and a square both have all right angles, so their opposite angles are equal too.
