The story of sugar
Read the sweet story of sugar.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 10), the fourth story is 'The Sweet Story of Sugar!'. Just as chillies travelled TO India, sugar travelled FROM India to other parts of the world.
Long ago, people across the world did not know about sugar. They used honey and other naturally sweet things to make their food sweet.
It was in India that people first discovered how to make jaggery from sugarcane juice. Over time, they found a way to turn jaggery into sugar. This knowledge spread to other parts of the world through trade and travel.
Your book says that rice, mangoes and bananas also went from India to other lands, and today people all over the world enjoy them. Our meals are like world travellers, carrying stories and flavours from all around the globe.
