Energy — How Things Work
The energy chain
Play the Energy Flow Game and follow energy from its source.
Your book has an Energy Flow Game. Some paper slips name SOURCES of energy: the Sun, wind, water, food, fuel and electricity. Other slips name TYPES of energy: heat, light, movement and sound. The last slips name USES: drying clothes, lighting a bulb, turning a turbine, cooking, running, and so on.
Each child gets one slip and walks around the class to find the two others that complete their energy chain, in this order: source, then type, then use.
Your book gives two chains. The Sun → heat → helps dry clothes. The wind → movement → turns a turbine to make electricity. A group might say, 'We are the heat of the Sun, and we help to dry clothes!'
Your book also asks where the energy comes from for a child carrying a school bag. The answer is food.
