Polite words

Learn polite words and good manners for sports and daily life.

In 'Change of Heart', Prabhat learns that being a good sport means being fair and kind. Good manners help too. On page 111 your book, Poorvi, practises the three magic words: please, thank you and sorry. On page 112 it gives polite phrases for each kind of situation.

To make a REQUEST: 'Could you please ...', 'Please can you help me with ...', or 'Kindly ..., please.' Somiwon wants Hitesh to help clean the classroom cupboard, so Somiwon could say, 'Could you please help me clean the cupboard?'

To say sorry for a MISTAKE: 'I'm sorry, that was my fault.' Sumit spilled water on Nupur's desk by accident, and Hitesh forgot to bring Simran's Art file. They could each say, 'I'm sorry, that was my fault.'

To say sorry for rude behaviour: 'I'm very sorry for the way I behaved' or 'I apologise. I was out of line.' Kriti spoke rudely to Nupur, so she needs one of these.

To say thank you: 'Thank you. It means so much to me that you ...', 'I truly appreciate your help with ... Thank you.' or 'I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart because you ...'. Mohan can thank Hitesh for helping him practise for the Inter-House speech competition, and Meher can thank Simran for explaining a chapter she missed.

Choose polite words that fit the situation: 'Could you please ...' to ask, 'I'm sorry, that was my fault' for a mistake, 'I apologise. I was out of line' for rudeness, and 'I truly appreciate your help' to thank.
