Listening: a local dish

Listen to a talk about a local dish and make notes.

On page 138 of your book, Poorvi, you listen to a talk about a local dish and fill in notes about it. Your teacher will read or play the talk; its words are on page 162. Here is what it tells, in short.

The speaker is Sushil. He is from Jabalpur, a town in Madhya Pradesh. He tells us about a special dish of his district, called gakkad bharta.

To make the gakkad, wheat dough is made into balls, and the balls are roasted on high heat. To make the bharta, brinjals and tomatoes are roasted. Then the bharta is garnished with chopped onions, coriander, green chillies and salt.

Sushil says this dish is made without frying. To eat it, you crumble the gakkad, pour some bharta over it, and add a spoonful of ghee. He invites everyone to come to Jabalpur and try it!

Gakkad bharta from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: roasted balls of wheat dough (gakkad) eaten with roasted brinjal and tomato (bharta) and a spoon of ghee — made without frying.
