sp and spl
Practise words that begin with sp and spl.
On page 59 of your book, Santoor, your teacher reads out eight words for you to listen to and repeat: spoon, splinter, spin, splash, speak, split, space, splendid.
Four of them begin with sp: spoon, spin, speak, space. Two sounds go together at the start: s + p.
The other four begin with spl: splinter, splash, split, splendid. Three sounds go together at the start: s + p + l. Listen for the l!
Say them in pairs and hear the difference: spin, split. spoon, splash. The spl words have an extra l sound just after the p.
Some meanings: a splinter is a tiny, sharp piece of wood that can get stuck in your skin. To split is to break or cut into parts. Splendid means wonderful.
