Glass Bangles
Capital letters and full stops
Learn where capital letters and full stops go.
On page 124 of your book, Santoor, five sentences about the story 'Glass Bangles' have lost their capital letters and their end marks. You write them again correctly.
Rule one: every sentence begins with a capital letter. 'the air was filled with the clinking of glass' must begin with a capital T: The air was filled with the clinking of glass.
Rule two: names always begin with a capital letter, wherever they come in the sentence. Names of people (Ravi, Ananya), of places (Firozabad) and of festivals (Diwali) all need capitals. So: Ravi and Ananya made a special collection for Diwali.
Rule three: a sentence that tells something ends with a full stop (.). A sentence that asks something ends with a question mark (?). 'did ravi like ananya's new designs at first' asks a question, so it becomes: Did Ravi like Ananya's new designs at first?
