Making besan laddus

Listen to how besan laddus are made.

On page 127 of your book, Santoor, your teacher reads aloud a short passage about making besan laddus, and you put the steps in the right order. Here is what it tells, in order.

Arjun and his sister, Meera, help their parents make besan laddus. First, their mother roasts chickpea flour (besan) in a pan until it turns golden brown.

Next, their father adds ghee and sugar to the roasted flour and stirs it well. Then he moves the mixture into a big bowl and lets it cool.

When the mixture is a little cool, Meera and Arjun shape it into small round balls. Finally, the children decorate each laddu with a sprinkle of chopped nuts.

Clue words help us find the order: 'first', 'then', 'when it is slightly cool' and 'finally'. It also helps to think: you cannot shape the laddus before the flour is roasted, and you cannot decorate a laddu before it is made.

To make besan laddus: roast the flour until golden brown, add ghee and sugar and stir, let it cool, shape it into balls, and last, decorate with chopped nuts.
