Project Based Learning
Teamwork and project ideas
Work in a team on a programming project.
Most projects are done in teams. Teamwork means individuals working together towards a common task, each contributing their skills, like a cricket team, where some bat, some bowl and everyone fields, all to win the match.
Good teamwork has six components: communicate clearly; listen to each other; share ideas and work; respect every member; help each other; and participate fully.
The book suggests some project ideas:
- Restaurant order processing: a program with separate logins for the manager and customers, which takes orders, calculates bills, and produces daily sales reports.
- A puzzle game like Minesweeper: a 6 × 6 board with 6 hidden bombs; the player opens squares one by one, and the program uses exception handling to deal with invalid moves.
- 'Match the Sum': a game in which the player removes 2 or 3 digits that add up to 10.
Projects like these bring together what you have learnt in the course: lists, functions, file handling, exception handling and data structures.
