Living Creatures: Exploring their Characteristics
Plants move too
Find out whether plants can move too.
Animals move from place to place. Plants stay in one spot all their lives. Are they still living? Yes, and they do move, in their own ways.
Flowers open. The opening of a flower is a movement in a plant.
Drosera is an insect-eating plant. Its leaves are shaped like saucers, covered in hair-like parts of different lengths with sticky ends. When an insect walks into the saucer, the hairs move inwards and trap it with their sticky ends.
Climbers wind around any object placed close to them, like a pea plant curling round a stick.
So although plants do not move from one place to another, they do show movement.
