The Ever-Evolving World of Science

Science and responsibility

Think about how science connects to the world outside the classroom, and our responsibility.

Deeper questions are about the real world, so the book asks you to step out of this book, and perhaps out of the classroom, and experience the world through activities and experiments.

It hopes these experiences will be more than interesting or exciting. It calls them stepping stones to a deeper understanding of the environment we live in and of our place on this planet.

And science is not about discovery alone. It is also about responsibility. Human activities are linked to what happens in the natural world, and to the society we live in. The smoke from vehicles and factories, or the waste we throw into a river, changes nature, and people live with what follows.

So the book hopes you will see the part science can play in facing environmental challenges and in building a more sustainable world: one that meets our needs today without spoiling things for the people who come after us.

Science is about responsibility as well as discovery: human activities are linked to the natural world and to the society we live in.
