Care and Maintenance of Fabrics in Institutions
Careers in fabric care
See fabric care as a business and a career.
Fabric care is a technical field. You need to know the material (fibre, yarn, fabric, colour, finish), the processes, the chemicals and reagents and their effects, and the machinery.
Laundry management courses are usually short, with coaching, placement help, support to start a business, and paid training in hi-tech laundries.
Every setup is different, so practical training or an internship is needed. Qualifications in textile science, textile chemistry, or fabric and apparel are very useful; Home Science graduate programmes offer them.
Entrepreneurship: laundry and care services help working families in cities, and serve nursing homes, small hospitals and day care centres.
Jobs: the hi-tech in-house laundries of railways, airlines, shipping lines, hotels and hospitals. Know the fibre, the chemical and the machine.
