Hospitality Management
Resource management and why hospitality matters
Explain the hospitality idea.
Resource Management is about using human resources (time, energy, skills) and non-human resources (money, space, things) to reach goals. It covers consumer and family finance, ergonomics, interior and exterior spaces, hospitality and event management, and human resource management. All of these offer careers and enterprises.
Indian culture treats a guest as God: 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. Every guest should get warmth and the best care.
Long ago, travellers stayed with relatives or in dharamshalas. Trade and travel have made paid hospitality necessary.
People travel for business, study, pilgrimage, medical treatment, leisure, family, shopping, culture, heritage and wildlife, and for events like the Pushkar and Kumbh melas, Mysore Dussehra and Ganapati festivals.
Tourists (people staying for a while in another place) need comfort, safety and hygiene, close to what they have at home. So the hospitality industry, one of the fastest-growing, aims to be 'a home away from home'. Treat every guest as a god: a home away from home.
