Societal Impacts
Being a good netizen
Behave ethically, respectfully and responsibly online.
Communication, banking, shopping, education and travel are increasingly online: we live in a digital society. Anyone who uses digital technology and the Internet is a digital citizen, or netizen. Good netizens follow net etiquettes:
Be ethical.
- Do not violate copyright: do not use copyrighted material without permission.
- Share your expertise, but share only information that is true and clear, on subjects you know well.
Be respectful.
- Respect privacy: do not share other people's private images, files or messages without their consent.
- Respect diversity: people have different knowledge, experiences and cultures.
Be responsible.
- Avoid cyber bullying: insulting, threatening or humiliating someone online, repeatedly, to hurt them. Remember that your actions can be traced through your digital footprint.
- Don't feed the troll: a troll deliberately starts quarrels and upsets people for fun. The best response is to ignore them; trolls need attention to survive.
Be ethical, respectful and responsible.
Ethical, respectful, responsible.
