Natural Vegetation
Tropical forests
Compare the tropical forest types by rainfall and species.
Natural vegetation: a plant community left undisturbed, adjusted to climate and soil.
Five types: tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen, tropical deciduous, tropical thorn, montane, littoral and swamp.
Evergreen: over 200 cm, above 22 °C; layered; up to 60 m; rosewood, mahogany, ebony.
Deciduous (monsoon) forests, the most widespread: moist (100-200 cm: teak, sal, sandalwood) and dry (70-100 cm: tendu, palas, khair).
Thorn forests: under 50 cm; babool, ber, khejri, neem.
Rain decides the forest.
