International Trade
What India exports
Interpret the book's table of what India exports.
Manufactured goods made up 67.8 per cent of India's exports in 2021-22 (down from 72.9 per cent in 2015-16).
- Crude oil and petroleum products rose from 11.9 to 16.4 per cent of exports (India refines imported oil and exports products).
- Agriculture and allied products fell slightly; ores and minerals stayed a small share.
Within agriculture, traditional items like cashew are declining, while floriculture (flowers), fresh fruits, marine products and sugar are rising.
Within manufacturing, engineering goods are growing fast, and gems and jewellery are a large share. India faces strong competition from China and other East Asian countries.
