Words and instruments
Understand how form shapes meaning.
The psaltery and the dulcimer are both old instruments, with strings stretched over a flat box. The difference: a dulcimer's strings are struck with small hammers; a psaltery's strings are plucked.
Dickinson writes 'Himself' and 'His' with capitals for the Sun, treating it with the respect given to a lord or a god.
Her dashes make the reader pause, as if catching each sight one at a time.
Her capitalised nouns (Tune, Creatures, Flags) give ordinary things importance.
Struck or plucked; pause at every dash.
