Remorse and release
Reflect on love that frees rather than possesses.
As Ananda's arrival draws near, Prakriti is suddenly afraid: is she all he will find at the end of his painful road?
She looks in the mirror, and sees him worn, faded and defeated, his radiance gone. She cries out to her mother to undo the spell.
She kicks the magic things to pieces, and hails him: 'Victory to him!'
When Ananda enters, she falls at his feet and begs his forgiveness. She dragged him down to earth, she says, so that he could raise her up.
Her mother, in revoking the spell, dies at his feet. Ananda chants his homage to the Buddha. Prakriti is purified: she has learned that true love gives freedom, not possession.
