One Centimetre
Vindication
Appreciate dignity over compensation.
One day, two elderly officials from the temple come to her home. The newspaper had forwarded her letter to them.
They measure Xiao Ye: exactly one metre ten. Tao Ying points out that a month and nine days have passed since the visit, so he must have been shorter then.
They apologise, and offer her a five-dollar note, and then two free tickets. She refuses both. The happiness of that day cannot be bought back, and the temple now holds only sad memories.
She also asks them not to punish the young guard: he was only doing his job.
She has just one request: that they explain to her son that his mother did nothing wrong. What she wants is not money, but Xiao Ye's trust.
