Vitamin-M / I Cannot Remember My Mother
Ravi the detective
Read how Ravi turns detective.
Stop 1: the park. Grandpa bought peanuts in a paper cone and sat watching the children. Ravi hid behind an elephant-shaped bush. A small child offered him a better hiding place, and the child's mother, thinking Ravi rude, raised her umbrella at him. Ravi crawled out on all fours.
Stop 2: the tea stall. Ravi hid behind a banyan tree, where loud women vendors accused him of taking their spot and surrounded him. He moved behind a parked car.
Forbidden treats. Grandpa sipped sugary tea, ate two bananas and an ice cream: all things he was not allowed at home.
Stop 3: the barber. Grandpa zigzagged across the traffic and went into the barber shop, although he was completely bald. Ravi ducked into the shop next door, a ladies' salon, and was thrown out amid shrieks.
The bus. Grandpa hurried to the bus stop and got on a bus. Ravi sprinted and jumped on just in time, spotting the yellow cap at the front.
The twist. When the man took off the cap, he had a full head of grey hair. He was a stranger in a white pyjama and shirt like Grandpa's, wearing Grandpa's cap, coffee stain and all. A kind old gentleman at the barber's had insisted he take it for the hot day. So where was Grandpa?
