Panic. Ravi searched the barber shop and the park, could not reach his parents, and went home sick with worry. There was Grandpa, snoring peacefully. Overcome with relief and love, Ravi hugged him.
Grandpa's little joke. That evening Grandpa calmly told Vidya that he had had a quiet morning, but Ravi had 'disappeared'. Ravi could not explain without admitting he had followed him.
Whose birthday? Grandpa gave Ravi a gift. Vidya said Ravi's birthday was three months ago. Grandpa replied that he always gave gifts to the children of the house on his own birthday, which she had forgotten, though she had circled it on the calendar.
Who needs Vitamin-M? Grandpa said his daughter needed it. Ravi's gift was a book of the best detective stories, with tips on not getting fooled when trailing a suspect, Grandpa said solemnly, with a twinkle in his eye.
The lesson. The 'forgetful' old man had outwitted everyone. Don't judge people by their age: our elders may be sharper than we think, and they deserve respect and independence.
