Ticking Clocks and Turning Calendar

How long does it take?

Find out how long it takes Raghav to bring milk from the market.

In your book, Maths Mela (Chapter 12), Raghav brings milk from the market every morning. He leaves home at 8:20 AM and comes back at 8:35 AM. How long did he take? The hour stays 8, so just look at the minutes: from 20 to 35 is 35 - 20 = 15 minutes.

We can also find when something ends. Raghav starts his homework at 10:20 AM and takes 25 minutes. Add the minutes: 20 + 25 = 45. He finishes at 10:45 AM.

Muneera starts reading a story at 4:15 PM and reads for 45 minutes. 15 + 45 = 60 minutes, and 60 minutes make a whole hour. So the clock moves on to the next hour: she finishes at 5:00 PM.

Akira leaves for school at 8:00 AM. She reaches school 15 minutes later, at 8:15 AM. The assembly ends 15 minutes after that, at 8:30 AM. Dance practice ends 20 minutes later, at 8:50 AM. And the break ends 10 minutes later, at 9:00 AM.

To find how long something takes, find the minutes from the start to the end; to find the end time, add the minutes, and 60 minutes take the clock to the next hour.
