The Transport Museum

Notes and coins

Pay with notes and coins at the museum with five friends.

In your book, Maths Mela (Chapter 13, The Transport Museum), five friends go to an amusement park. A ticket costs ₹750. Each friend pays with a different kind of note or coin. Bujji has only ₹200 notes, Munna only ₹50 notes, Balu only ₹20 notes, Chinnu only ₹5 coins and Sansu only ₹2 coins.

Munna's ₹50 notes: 10 notes make ₹500, and 5 more make ₹250, so 15 notes make exactly ₹750. Chinnu's ₹5 coins: 750 ÷ 5 = 150 coins, exactly. Sansu's ₹2 coins: 750 ÷ 2 = 375 coins, exactly. These three friends get no change.

Bujji's ₹200 notes: 3 notes make only ₹600, which is not enough. So Bujji must give 4 notes, which is ₹800, and gets ₹800 - ₹750 = ₹50 back as change.

Balu's ₹20 notes: 37 notes make only ₹740, ₹10 short. So Balu must give 38 notes, which is ₹760, and gets ₹10 back.

To pay an amount with one kind of note or coin, divide the amount by the note's value; if it does not divide exactly, give one more note and get the extra back as change.
