Hide and Seek

Front, top, side or back?

Decide whether a drawing shows the front, top, side or back of a thing.

In your book, Maths Mela (Chapter 2), there are drawings of everyday things, and you name each thing and say which view it shows: the front, the top, the side or the back.

One drawing is a flat, dark screen in a thin frame, standing on a small stand. That is a TV, and we see it from the front, the way you see it when you sit down to watch.

Another drawing is a long rounded sole with a strap shaped like a V across it. That is a slipper (a flip-flop), seen from the top, the way you see it when you look down at your feet. A third drawing is a yellow bus with a big window, back lights on both sides, a number plate, and the words 'STOP children on board'. That is a school bus from the back: the sign is on the back to warn the cars behind it.

The last clear one is a chair drawn as one tall line for the back, a seat sticking out, and two legs. It looks a little like the letter h. That is a chair seen from the side. From the front, you would see the whole wide seat and all of the chair's back.

To name a view, ask where you are looking from: the front, the top, the side or the back.
