Making shadows

Make shadows indoors with a torch.

Your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 10), shows a way to make shadows indoors. You need a torch and a stick. Close the doors and windows so that the room is dark. Hold the stick still, and shine the torch on it. A shadow of the stick appears.

First, the stick is moved closer to the torch and further away. Your book says that when the object is close to the source of light, the shadow is bigger. Moved further away, the shadow gets smaller.

Next, the torch is pointed from a different direction. Your book says that when the direction of the light changes, the direction of the shadow changes too. The shadow always falls on the side of the stick away from the torch. This is just like the Sun and our shadows during the day.

An object close to the source of light makes a bigger shadow, and when the direction of the light changes, the direction of the shadow changes too.
