Flyovers and metros

Learn about flyovers and metro trains.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 2), Navya sees a metro train rushing past the bus. 'The train is moving so fast!' she says. Dada ji tells her that metro trains travel very fast.

Dada ji also tells her about flyovers. A flyover is a high road that carries vehicles above busy roads and crossings, so they do not have to stop at them. This saves travellers' time. Some flyovers are built for metros, and others are for buses and cars.

Many other things make travel faster too: bridges that cross rivers, aeroplanes, fast trains, and ropeways, where cable cars hang from a strong wire and carry people up and down hills.

But Dada ji says that many animals, birds and trees that used to be there are gone, because of all this building. Navya wonders if we can build new things and still keep nature safe. Dada ji says yes, by keeping a balance: if we plant trees, we can keep our environment secure.

Flyovers and metros make travel faster, but building them has cost many animals, birds and trees their place, so we keep a balance by planting trees.
