Exploring Our Neighbourhood

Public places and helpers

Learn about public places and the people who help us there.

Public places help people by giving services for health, safety, cleanliness or the environment. Hospitals, banks, post offices, police stations, public libraries and bus stations are all public places.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 2), Navya's bus stops near a hospital. She sees a banner that says 'Eye Check-up Camp', and many people going in. Dada ji explains that people come to a hospital when they are unwell. A few years ago he brought Navya's grandmother there for an eye operation, and the doctors helped her see better.

Many people work in a hospital. A doctor treats patients and prescribes medicines, which means the doctor tells them which medicines to take.

A police station keeps people safe. Police officers and constables work there, and they drive a patrolling jeep to go around the area.

Public places like hospitals, banks, post offices, police stations, libraries and bus stations give us services, and helpers such as doctors and police officers work there.
