Nature Trail
Leaves and veins
Collect leaves and look at their veins.
On the nature trail in your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 3), the students collect leaves from different plants. Leaves are different in colour, in shape and in texture, which is how they feel when you touch them.
For example, a lemon leaf is green, oval in shape and smooth to touch, and it has a strong smell.
Leaves also have lines on them. These lines are called veins.
Veins are arranged in different ways. In some leaves the veins run side by side, along the length of the leaf. In other leaves there is one line down the middle, and smaller lines branch out from it.
