Nature Trail

The web of life

Play the Web of Life game and see how living things are connected.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 3), the students play a game called 'Web of Life'. Each player gets a card with the name of a plant, an animal or a part of nature, such as a tree, a bird, a river or even the Sun.

One player holds a ball of yarn and thinks of a connection with another player. For example, a tree gives food to a bird, or a river supports a fish. The yarn is passed to that player, while the first player keeps holding the thread. As more connections are made, the web grows bigger.

Then one player is taken away, such as the deer, which the tiger needs for food, or the plants, which the animals need. The web becomes weak, or even falls apart.

This shows that all living things and nature are connected. If one part goes missing, the other parts are harmed too.

All living things and nature are connected like a web, and if one part goes missing, the whole web weakens.
