Who helps the grain
Meet everyone who helps a grain on its long journey.
In your book, the journey of a grain from the farm to our plate is long. No grain can make it alone. Many helpers make the journey possible.
People help: the farmer sows the seeds, pulls out the weeds and harvests the crop; the seller or shopkeeper sells the grain; and the cook and our family members clean it and cook it at home.
Animals help too. Cattle help the crop, and their dung makes manure for the field. Earthworms work in the soil and keep it good for the plants. And the grain needs water, soil, air and sunlight to grow.
Some things do not help a grain on its journey at all. A tiger, the hills or a stone do nothing for the crop in the field.
