Mindful eating
Learn what mindful eating is.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 6), a teacher asks her students to sit in a circle and close their eyes. Then she puts one peanut on each student's palm. Every student feels it, and a few of them know at once that it is a peanut.
With their eyes still closed, the students follow her steps, in this order. Put the food in your mouth slowly. Feel it with your tongue and mouth. Chew it gently with your teeth. Notice its flavour and taste, using your tongue, your nose and your other senses. Remember the taste as you chew. And before you swallow, notice how the food feels: its texture.
This is mindful eating: paying attention to what we eat and how we feel while we eat. When we eat slowly and chew well, we enjoy our food more. It helps us make healthier choices, and we value the food we have.
