The globe

Use a globe to understand day and night.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), you use a globe to understand day and night. A globe is a model of our Earth. It is shaped like a ball, just like the real Earth.

The blue parts of the globe are the seas and oceans. They cover about three-fourths of the Earth. That means if you cut the Earth into four equal parts, about three of them would be water!

A sea is usually smaller than an ocean, and it is partly enclosed by land — land is around some of it. Oceans are vast, open water bodies.

The rest of the globe is land. The land is where all the countries are.
