Rhythms of Nature
Seasons and crops
Find out how seasons decide which crops are grown.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), you learn that seasons are not just changes in the weather. They shape everything around us.
Farmers grow different crops in different seasons. Some crops grow best in winter. Some grow best in the heat of summer. And some are planted in the rainy season, because they need more water to grow. Your book asks you to find out, with your teacher and elders, which crops grow in summer and in winter in your region.
Seasons also shape how people live: what they eat, what they wear, what they do, and the festivals they celebrate. In India there are even songs for the different seasons.
From the crops we harvest to the festivals we celebrate, seasons give a rhythm to our lives. They remind us that change is natural, and that life moves in cycles.
