Rhyming pairs

Find the rhyming pairs in the poem.

Open your book, Poorvi, at page 13 and read the poem 'The Raven and the Fox' again (it goes on to page 14). Listen to the last word of each line. The lines come in twos, and the two lines of each pair end with rhyming words. On page 16 you write these rhyming pairs.

Stanza 1 is about the Raven on the branch with food in his beak. Its rhyming pairs are 'limb' and 'him', and 'beak' and 'seek'.

Stanza 2 is the Fox's praise. Its rhyming pairs are 'word' and 'bird', and 'sing' and 'King'.

Stanza 3 is where the Raven opens his beak. Its rhyming pairs are 'joke' and 'croak', and 'pride' and 'eyed'.

Stanza 4 is the Fox's lesson. Its rhyming pairs are 'know' and 'glow', and 'unwise' and 'surprise'. Say each pair aloud: the ending sounds match, even when the spellings are different, as in 'joke' and 'croak'.

The lines of the poem rhyme in pairs: limb-him, beak-seek, word-bird, sing-King, joke-croak, pride-eyed, know-glow and unwise-surprise.
