Friendship
Adjectives
Learn what adjectives are, and use them to describe people and things.
In 'The Chair', Mario is brave and determined, and the chair is special and invisible. Words like brave, determined, special and invisible tell us what a person or thing is like. On page 66 your book, Poorvi, gives them a name: ADJECTIVES. An adjective describes the quality of a person or a thing.
An adjective usually comes before the noun it describes, and it must suit that noun. Your book matches these on page 67: a brave soldier, a clever plan, tasty peanuts, heavy rain, a slight cold, and true friends. We would not say 'tasty rain' or 'a heavy friend', because those adjectives do not suit those nouns.
Be careful: a word can be a noun in one place. In 'a slight cold', the adjective is 'slight' and the noun is 'cold' (an illness).
Your book also has a little story with adjective-noun pairs. It begins: once upon a time, a happy boy named Abhishek found an old book in the attic, and in it he read amazing stories. Later there are colourful creatures and fantastic adventures too.
