Past forms of verbs

Learn the past forms of verbs.

Verbs are words that tell us what someone does. A verb can show an action happening now (in the present) or an action that happened before (in the past).

On page 82 of your book, Poorvi, you match six verbs with their past forms: become and became, find and found, make and made, discover and discovered, tell and told, give and gave.

Look closely. 'Discover' simply adds -ed to become 'discovered'. The other five change in their own way: become becomes 'became', find becomes 'found', make becomes 'made', tell becomes 'told' and give becomes 'gave'. These you have to learn by heart.

Your book's example uses the present form: 'I want to become a teacher when I grow up.' Now the past forms, with 'Neem Baba': Neem Baba told Amber about its names. Amber found out many new things. The neem tree became well known for what it does. Neem Baba made Amber think, and she discovered that the tree has many uses.

Each present verb has a past form: become-became, find-found, make-made, discover-discovered, tell-told, give-gave.
