A Journey to the Magical Mountains
Landforms
Learn the names of different landforms.
The land around us has different shapes. On page 120 of your book, Santoor, you look up nine landform words in a dictionary and label a drawing of hills and mountains. Here is what each word means.
A mountain range is a long line of mountains joined together, like the Himalayas. The summit is the very top of a mountain, its highest point. The slope is the side of a mountain or hill, going up or down. The foot is the bottom of a mountain, where it meets the flat ground; Minam's village is at the foot of the Himalayas.
A hill is raised land, but lower than a mountain. A plateau is high land with a flat top, like a table. A plain is a wide stretch of flat land.
A valley is low land between mountains or hills. A river is water flowing across the land, often down from the mountains, like the small, clear river where Minam had lunch.
