A Journey to the Magical Mountains

Body-part phrases

Learn phrases that use body parts, like the foot of a mountain.

The story of Minam begins in a village at the foot of the Himalayas. The foot of a mountain is its bottom part, where it meets the flat ground, just as your foot is the bottom part of you!

On page 119 of your book, Santoor, you learn that we often use the names of body parts for parts of things. The legs of the table hold it up. The hands of the clock point to the time. The neck of the bottle is its thin top part.

On page 120, you match more. The mouth of the river is where the river flows into the sea. The arm of the chair is where you rest your arm. The heart of the city is its busy centre.

An ear of corn is the part of the plant where the grains grow. The eye of a needle is the little hole that the thread goes through.

We use body-part words for parts of things: the foot of the mountain, the hands of the clock, the mouth of the river, the eye of a needle.
