The odd one out

Find the odd one out among words with similar meanings.

Some words have similar meanings. On page 129 of your book, Santoor, the examples are: happy, joyful, cheerful (all mean feeling glad), and brave, bold, fearless (all mean not afraid).

Then your book gives sets of words where one word does not fit. Sad, unhappy, tearful, thrilled: the first three mean feeling low, but thrilled means very excited and happy. So thrilled is the odd one out.

Talk, discuss, kind, speak: talk, discuss and speak are all about saying things, but kind means gentle and caring. So kind is the odd one out. Noisy, quiet, silent, calm: quiet, silent and calm all mean without noise, so noisy is the odd one out.

The last set is a little different. Cotton, silk and woollen are all kinds of cloth (think of the Maheshwari sarees of cotton and silk). Wooden means made of wood, which is not cloth. So wooden is the odd one out.

In a set of words with similar meanings, the odd one out is the word whose meaning is different, like 'thrilled' among sad, unhappy and tearful.
