One Thing at a Time

What is happening now

Learn how to say what someone is doing right now.

To say what someone is doing right now, we use 'is' or 'are' with an action word that ends in -ing. On page 38 of your book, Santoor, there is a table with three parts: Who, Is/Are, and Doing What.

Your book's examples: Two girls / are / going to school. A woman / is / typing on a computer.

Use 'is' for ONE person or thing: a woman is typing, the boy is reading. Use 'are' for MORE than one: two girls are going, the children are playing. With 'I', we use 'am': I am writing.

Add -ing to the action word: go - going, play - playing, sing - singing. If the word ends in e, drop the e first: type - typing, write - writing.

To say what is happening now, use is (one) or are (more than one) with an -ing word: A woman is typing. Two girls are going to school.
