The Old Stag
Describing phrases
Learn describing phrases that give more details.
Some words give us more details about a scene, a person or a thing. Your book, Santoor, calls them descriptive words, and says they make writing more interesting. On page 47 you match five describing phrases with their meanings.
Lush forest: a green and dense forest, thick with trees and plants. Tender grass: delicate young grass, soft and new. Shaded spot: a cool resting place, where the shade keeps off the hot sun.
Healthy food: nourishing, wholesome food that is good for your body. Speedy recovery: quick healing, getting well fast.
Four of these are in the story 'The Old Stag'. The old stag lived in a lush forest and liked the tender grass on his hillock. When he fell ill, he knew fresh, healthy food would help him, and his friends wished him a speedy recovery.
