Papa’s Spectacles
Spot the right spelling
Find the right spelling among words that look nearly the same.
Some words are easy to spell wrongly because a wrong spelling can look nearly right. On page 5 of your book, Santoor, each word is written three ways, and only one way is correct. The first one is done for you: 'water' is right, and 'watter' and 'weter' are wrong.
Look closely at the letters that are doubled. 'Balloon' has a double l AND a double o: b-a-l-l-o-o-n. 'Carpenter' has no double letter at all. 'Fruit' ends in one t: f-r-u-i-t.
Some words have tricky vowels. 'Vegetables' is v-e-g-e-t-a-b-l-e-s. 'Spectacles' is s-p-e-c-t-a-c-l-e-s. 'Elephant' uses 'ph' for the 'f' sound: e-l-e-p-h-a-n-t. 'House' is h-o-u-s-e.
'Receive' is a famous tricky word. After the letter c, we write e before i: r-e-c-e-i-v-e. And the head of your school is the 'principal': p-r-i-n-c-i-p-a-l.
