The Decision of the Panchayat
The neem tree
Read a passage about the neem tree.
On page 103 of your book, Santoor, there is a passage called 'The Neem Tree'. Here is what it tells, in short.
You may have seen a neem tree near your house, near your school or beside the road. Almost everyone can recognise one. The passage calls the neem a magic medicine tree, because almost every part of the tree is used for medicine.
Here are the ways people use it. Sometimes sick people are given neem juice to drink. People use neem twigs as a toothbrush to clean their teeth. (A twig is a short stick.) When dry neem leaves are burnt inside the house, the mosquitoes disappear. (Disappear means vanish, go out of sight.)
Dry neem leaves also help us store things. Put them between winter clothes and blankets, and they keep insects away. Put them at the bottom of a rice bin, and they keep pests away from the rice.
