On page 109 of your book, Santoor, you match five words from the poem 'Vocation' with their meanings. Here is each word, and where it comes in the poem.
A gong is a metal disc that makes a loud sound when it is hit with a small hammer. In the poem, the gong sounds ten in the morning, and the child sets off for school.
A lane is a narrow path or road. The child walks to school down the lane, and at night the lane is dark and lonely. A spade is a tool used for gardening, for digging the ground. The gardener digs with his spade.
A giant is an imaginary creature, like a man but of great height and strength. The tall street lamp looks to the child like a giant with one red eye. A lantern is a case that holds a candle or a light and can be carried easily. The watchman swings his lantern as he walks.
One more word: the name of the poem. A vocation is the work a person does, like the hawker's, the gardener's and the watchman's.
