सृजनात्मकता और लेखन / Creativity and Writing

Imagination, experience and language

Show how observation becomes vivid writing.

Imagination is the ability to form mental images; 'to perceive' means to look deeply, not just 'to see'. Kunwar Narain's 'The Neem Flowers' shows a common tree in an uncommon way (flowers like soap-bubbles caught in Mother's hair).

Experiences — joyful or sad — urge us to express; a trained mind absorbs and stores them, and the human brain recalls them faster than any computer.

Creative writing combines a desire to create, awareness of the world, imagination, skill with words, knowledge, observation and an urge to respond. Nelson Mandela's 'Long Walk to Freedom' turns intense experience into writing.

Language is both medium and material: Robert Burns compares love to 'a red, red rose' and 'a melody' — similes that make an unseen feeling vivid.

Specifics make writing alive: visual specifics in Royina Grewal's Amarkantak (golden meadows, red laterite soil), auditory specifics in Wordsworth's 'The Solitary Reaper'. A creative writer must first be a good reader.

To perceive, not just to see.
